Three days is short for an island this size, so pick one end and go deep rather than driving the whole coast. Below are two self-contained options.
Option A — The West (fly into Chania)
- Day 1: Chania old town and harbour; sunset at the lighthouse.
- Day 2: Balos lagoon or Elafonisi, whichever the wind favours.
- Day 3: Imbros Gorge (a manageable half-day) and a swim at Frangokastello before your flight.
Option B — The Centre (fly into Heraklion)
- Day 1: Heraklion waterfront, market and the Archaeological Museum.
- Day 2: Knossos in the morning, then south to Matala's caves and beach.
- Day 3: Rethymno old town and Fortezza on the way back to the airport.
Make it easy
Rent a car at the airport so you are not tied to bus timetables, and stay in a single base to avoid wasting half a day packing. For longer trips see the 7-day and 10-day plans.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I see all of Crete in 3 days?
Not comfortably. Crete is large; in three days choose either the west (Chania) or the centre (Heraklion) and explore one region well.
