Pseira is a small island with a Minoan town, reached by boat from Mochlos on the gulf east of Agios Nikolaos and west of Sitia. The visit is ruins and a swim, and the crossing is exposed. When the wind is up the boat does not go, which happens often enough in summer to treat the day as optional. Mochlos village is a short harbour and a good lunch if you stay ashore. Do not plan Pseira as the only event of a one-day dash from Heraklion. The usual length is 4–6 hours, and the months that usually work are May to September, wind decides. It suits people already in the east who can accept a cancellation. Skip it on a windy forecast, and skip it if anyone cannot walk a rough islet. Drive to Mochlos from Sitia or Agios Nikolaos.
