Day tripSeitan Limania cove visit
Chania3–4 hours
Seitan Limania is a narrow cove on the Akrotiri peninsula, reached by a steep stair from a small car park. The water is clear when the wind is down and rough when the north wind is up. There is little sand, no shade on the stair, and the car park is small. The visit is the cove itself, not a boat and not a long hike. The usual length is 3–4 hours, and the months that usually work are May to October. It suits confident walkers who want a swim close to Chania. Skip it with a buggy, with anyone unsteady on stairs, or on a day when the meltemi is already on the north coast. Drive the Akrotiri road from Chania toward the cove car park, then walk down. A kayak morning is the other way in, and it runs only when the bay is calm.

HistoryAkrotiri monasteries from Chania
Chania3–4 hours
Agia Triada and Gouverneto sit on the Akrotiri peninsula east of Chania. The visit is courtyards, a short walk between them, and the cave chapel path beyond Gouverneto if you want the extra steps. It is a quiet morning rather than a hike, and it pairs badly with a late boat because the peninsula road is slow when the beaches fill. The usual length is 3–4 hours, and the months that usually work are Year round, mornings are cooler. It suits people who want a close-in historical stop and can dress for a working monastery. Skip it if the group wanted a swim and will resent the detour. Drive the Akrotiri road from Chania. The monasteries are signed. Shoulders and knees should be covered, and midday in August is hot in the courtyards.

Town walkChania old town walk
Chania2–3 hours
A walk through Chania old town covers the Venetian harbour, the lanes behind the market, and the hill of Kastelli. The distance is short. The interest is the layers of the town, not a viewpoint marathon. Summer evenings are crowded on the waterfront and quieter two streets back. Winter is a different town, with many restaurants closed and the lighthouse walk still open. The usual length is 2–3 hours, and the months that usually work are Year round. It suits a first evening or a rest morning. It is not a hike, and it will bore anyone who wanted a gorge. Do it on foot from a town hotel rather than as a coach excursion. Start at the old harbour or the municipal market. Both are in the centre. The ground is marble and can be slippery after rain.
