Car rental in Sitia: airport, port and eastern routes

Sitia has its own airport and harbour, so name your actual arrival point when arranging a rental. For several eastern stops, a Sitia base gives a different plan from collecting in Heraklion and driving across the region.

Plan collection and returnArrival guide
Sitia, Crete

This is a planning guide. The rental company must confirm the actual vehicle, dated quotation and collection agreement.

01

Separate JSH, harbour and town collection

The aviation authority places Sitia Airport outside the town centre. Use JSH and the flight details for an airport enquiry, or the ferry ticket’s port and arrival time for a sailing. Obtain a specific office or meeting pin.

02

Plan the town’s final approach

Ask the accommodation where to unload and park before heading into the centre. Check whether the proposed vehicle collection is at the airport, in town or elsewhere. A harbour address and an airport address are not interchangeable arrangements.

03

Give the eastern outings enough space

Visit Greece identifies Vai and the wider eastern landscape as part of the Sitia area. Choose the exact stops and their access before setting out. Treat a beach walk, a gorge visit and a road journey as different parts of the plan.

04

Compare a Sitia or Heraklion return

If the departure is through a different gateway, compare the one-way rental quotation with returning to Sitia. Confirm the final office, opening hours and any onward transfer. Use your booked flight or sailing, not a generic regional driving time.

Before accepting a rental quotation

  • Dates and meeting points

Give the flight or ferry details, collection and return addresses, and the times you need. Ask what changes if the arrival is delayed.

  • Vehicle and luggage

Describe the passengers, child-seat needs, bags and preferred transmission. Ask which model or category the quotation actually covers.

  • Contract and complete cost

Request the deposit, accepted payment method, insurance excess and exclusions, fuel policy, mileage and cancellation terms. Confirm any extra driver or one-way charge.

  • Roads and final handover

Name any track or ferry leg in your plan and ask for written permission where required. Obtain the inspection and out-of-hours return instructions.

Practical rental questions.

  • Ask the chosen company to confirm collection for your flight date and time. The official airport page establishes the airport location and access information, not a booking with a particular supplier.
  • Only if the company agrees the location, hours and total charge. Compare that arrangement before booking; a regional rental does not automatically include a one-way return.
  • Check the exact road and intended parking with the rental company. A visitor attraction on a map does not establish vehicle access or permission under the contract.
